To travel is also to travel inward. Walking the pilgrimage routes of Spain, from Santiago de Compostela to the end of the earth. This book is a collection of essays woven from the landscapes, people, words, food, plants, animals, and fleeting thoughts the author encountered during her journey through Spain. Rather than a conventional travelogue that takes you from one tourist destination to another, the book follows the small things discovered along the way, casual conversations with strangers, and subtle shifts within the author herself as starting points for reflecting on travel and life. When we travel, we begin to notice that the world is connected in unexpected ways. A landscape in a distant country can awaken a memory of our own. The words of a stranger can sometimes become an answer to a question we have carried for years. Plants growing by the roadside, old buildings, customs rooted in the land, people met by chance, and meals eaten along the way. This is a record of gathering up these seemingly insignificant moments and, through them, thinking about walking, traveling, and living. ＊About the Original Handmade Binding The cover features a landscape from the journey, created using an old photographic technique called cyanotype, in which photographs are developed in blue using light and water. The image appears like a blurred afterimage of a place left behind in memory. Even landscapes we once saw with certainty gradually lose their contours as time passes, transforming into different colors and shapes within our memories. Through these blue photographs, the book expresses the ambiguity and beauty inherent in the way we remember our journeys. Layered over the photograph is a single line reminiscent of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold. This line traces the route the author actually walked, connecting the places she visited on a map. Just as kintsugi does not conceal cracks or imperfections, but instead preserves them as part of an object's story, this line holds the coincidences and “deviations” born along the journey, the cracks in life, and fragments of memory. The book itself is bound in an accordion-fold format inspired by a traditional Japanese goshuincho, a book used to collect temple and shrine stamps. Closed, it becomes a single book. Open, it unfolds into one long road. Because each book is handmade individually, every finished piece has its own unique character. The placement of the photograph on the cover and the shape of the gold line will vary slightly from one book to another.
